Compare the application’s observation and transfer cycles separately from the advertised Ethernet link rate.
Keep scheduling with the data path
Beckhoff documents a PLC cycle and background processing separately from Ethernet interface work. Link capacity does not by itself specify the application’s observation interval. Primary reference: PLC cycle and interface processing.
The cited device-specific explanation is used for the scheduling distinction, not as the behavior of another controller. Record the actual application and interface timing requirements instead of converting a network speed label into a complete update-time guarantee.
An illustrative bit-time comparison
Assume a fictional 250-byte payload and a 100 million bit/s link. Payload bits alone take 250 times eight divided by that rate, or 20 microseconds. This excludes framing, access, processing and other delays. It is not an end-to-end latency or cycle-time result.
Now suppose the proposed application updates that field only every 100 milliseconds. The short hypothetical payload transmission does not create new source observations between those updates. Put payload size, link rate, source scheduling and receiving processing in separate worksheet columns rather than substituting the smallest number for all of them.
Specify the relevant timing requirement
Ask whether the project needs latest-value age, bounded response time or complete event retention. Those requirements need evidence for the actual whole path. Keep measured application timestamps or agreed timing tests distinct from theoretical bit arithmetic.
This guide recommends no link setting or universal cycle time and claims no HM communication interface. It helps a buyer interpret a high bandwidth offer without assuming that source scheduling, software workload or destination handling has been demonstrated by the same figure.

It is payload-only hypothetical arithmetic.
Does more bandwidth create more source observations?
Source scheduling is a separate condition.
