Autogenous describes the filler condition rather than who moves the torch.
Keep two independent fields
Linde describes TIG operation as autogenous when it uses no added filler, or with separately supplied filler. Automation is a different process-description field. Primary reference: Linde process description.
A proposal can therefore state how material enters the joint separately from how movement and current are controlled. Preserve both entries; translating autogenous into automatic would create information the word does not supply.
Compare invented process records
Imagine fictional record A describes a manually controlled joint with no added filler. Record B describes mechanized movement and separately supplied filler wire. Calling B autogenous solely because movement is automated would misclassify its material condition.
Likewise, manually performed A does not acquire filler merely because an operator is present. These deliberately contrasted records describe documentation logic and do not establish weld chemistry, suitability or a particular production method.
Review a complete proposal
Create separate columns for added filler, filler identity when applicable, movement/control method and parent material. Use an explicit none-declared entry rather than a blank when the route intentionally excludes filler.
Ask how the actual process achieves and verifies the required joint under that condition. The absence of filler is not a complete quality specification. Keeping the material and automation fields independent lets a buyer request the missing evidence without rejecting or approving a route from one ambiguous adjective.
Customer Questions
Does autogenous mean automated?
It describes the no-added-filler condition here.
Which invented record has filler?
B declares separately supplied wire.
Does no filler establish joint suitability?
The actual joint and process still need their own evidence.
