Three output channels do not necessarily mean that every sensor position independently measured three colours. The image-processing path needs to accompany the frame.
Identify the original colour observations
In a Bayer colour-filter array, each sensor location records one filtered colour component. A raw Bayer format retains those samples; a full RGB representation needs the missing components to be supplied through reconstruction or other applicable processing. Primary reference: Basler: Bayer and RGB pixel formats.
Keep the mosaic pattern and its orientation with raw data. A colour channel order such as RGB or BGR describes an output arrangement, while the Bayer pattern describes the sensor-filter positions. Confusing those two descriptions can reverse colour interpretation without changing the visible file dimensions.
Follow a fictional reconstruction
Imagine a tiny hypothetical mosaic containing one red-filtered position, two green-filtered positions and one blue-filtered position in a repeating block. Producing three colour values at every output position requires more than copying the one value originally captured there. Neighbouring observations may contribute to the reconstructed result.
A narrow coloured printed edge can cross those filter positions differently as the pack moves. This thought experiment identifies an evidence question about reconstruction and position. It does not prescribe an interpolation algorithm, quantify colour error or establish a minimum feature size for any actual inspection system.
Compare the same processing stage
Request the raw format or the documented conversion path behind supplied RGB images. Preserve white-balance, colour transformation and any resize operations that affect the comparison. A raw mosaic rendered with one converter is not automatically equivalent to a camera's processed RGB output.
When evaluating a small colour feature, retain its positions and original frames across the expected movement. Review whether the task uses reconstructed colour, intensity or a separately defined decision feature. Treat the appearance of a single enlarged colour screenshot as a presentation of the record, with the acquisition and reconstruction evidence available beside it.
Customer Questions
Does each Bayer location capture all RGB components?
No. Each location records one filtered component.
Is RGB channel order the Bayer pattern?
No. They describe different parts of the representation.
What should accompany an RGB trial image?
Retain the acquisition format and documented colour-processing path.
