A calibration relationship, a setting change and a conformity decision are different deliverables. State which operations the service request includes.
Separate the service actions
Calibration establishes how indications relate to reference values, including uncertainty. Adjustment changes the measuring system to obtain prescribed indications. Verification checks specified requirements. A service ticket saying only “calibrate” can leave the intended sequence unclear.
A hypothetical service instruction
Suppose the buyer wants the instrument condition documented before any setting is changed. A technician who immediately adjusts zero could remove useful evidence about the incoming condition. The request should specify the initial calibration evidence, any approved adjustment and the subsequent evidence separately.
Another buyer may need a conformity statement against a named requirement. The calibration table alone does not supply that statement unless its interpretation and decision method are included. These scenarios describe documentation choices, not an HM service practice.
Define the scope before work
List the required operations and who may authorize adjustment. Retain instrument identity, reference conditions, before-and-after results and the requirement used for verification. If adjustment occurs, ask what recalibration is needed to establish the new relationship.

| Can a setting be changed? | Named approval and record |
| What follows adjustment? | Required recalibration evidence |
Customer Questions
Does calibration always change settings?
No. Calibration and adjustment are distinct.
Is verification just another name for calibration?
No. It checks a specified requirement.
Why record the sequence?
It identifies which instrument condition each result represents.
