A calibration fit and an ongoing check answer different questions. Preserve the check standard’s identity and independent observation history.
Choose what the check represents
A check standard is an artifact used to assess a measurement process. Its usefulness depends on stability and relevance to the process being monitored. Repeated check readings provide a record of behavior; they are not automatically equivalent to fitting the calibration model.
An invented monitoring gap
Imagine every displayed “check” is a value that software has just forced onto the calibration curve. Those displayed matches cannot independently reveal whether the subsequent measurement process changed. A separately observed check, with its own identity and suitable reference, supplies different information.
The appropriate arrangement depends on the instrument and approved method. Do not assume a particular artifact or checking frequency from this example. The monitoring record also needs a response plan when results raise a concern.
Keep the history interpretable
Record the check identity, reference information, method, conditions and unedited readings over time. Identify calibration or setting changes on the same timeline. Review check-standard stability as well as instrument behavior; a changing artifact can complicate the apparent signal.

Customer Questions
Is a point used in a calibration fit automatically an independent check?
No. Its role in the evaluation must be understood.
Does this guide prescribe a daily frequency?
No. The actual method and risk determine frequency.
Can the check artifact itself change?
Yes. Its stability must be considered.
