Separate crystallized product from dissolved product remaining in mother liquor when reporting isolation yield.

Define the Phase or Process Boundary

LearnChemE's evaporative-crystallization balances retains solid product and dissolved product in a liquid outlet as separate terms. A physical phase-recovery calculation does not establish a chemical-reaction conversion or account for every later washing and drying loss.

Review a Hypothetical Comparison

Imagine a fictional endpoint containing 30 kg of an unchanged named product. Supplied liquid inventory is 100 kg mother liquor with product mass fraction 0.10, so 10 kg product remains dissolved. With no other product compartments, the crystalline product is 20 kg and the fraction recovered as crystals is 20/30≈66.7%. Reporting 30 kg as recovered solid would silently include the dissolved 10 kg. The result uses actual liquid inventory as supplied, rather than assuming a solvent-based solubility number is per solution mass.

Keep the Evidence with the Decision

Name the yield denominator and recovery stage. Keep solubility basis, mother-liquor inventory and crystal composition together. Include hydrate/solvate composition or impurities if they affect what product mass means. Retain subsequent wash/drying changes in separate stage balances instead of transferring this endpoint fraction to the final packed product.

All quantities are assigned and no reaction occurs in this model. The calculation predicts no real solubility, achievable endpoint or final pharmaceutical yield.

Customer Questions

Is this chemical reaction yield?

No. It is physical recovery of unchanged product into the solid phase.

Can solvent-based solubility be used directly here?

Convert it to the stated liquid-inventory basis first.

Does 66.7% describe final packed recovery?

Only this assigned crystallization endpoint; later losses need separate balances.
