Electrically assisted routes can use different material-removal mechanisms.
Name the removal mechanism
EMAG describes ECM through electrolysis between workpiece and tool in an electrolyte. Makino describes EDM through electrical-discharge spark erosion. Retain that distinction. Primary reference: EMAG process explanation. Primary reference: Makino process explanation.
Classify fictional process descriptions
Imagine record A explicitly identifies a workpiece anode, tool cathode and dissolution in an electrolyte. Record B identifies controlled discharge events removing material at the electrode gap. Merely calling both electrical machining would lose the mechanism difference.
A third record lists a conductive workpiece but supplies no information about the medium or removal route. That property alone cannot classify the record as ECM or EDM. These are invented descriptions, not actual process data or an instruction for connecting electrodes and power sources.
Keep consequences as evidence questions
Record medium identity, electrode roles and the mechanism the supplier actually claims. Ask for relevant dimensional and surface evidence under that route rather than transferring results from another electrically assisted method.
Do not infer universal absence of thermal effects, tool wear or surface alteration from a process label. Such outcomes require the actual process and material evidence, even if a supplier emphasizes them for its own equipment. The worksheet supplies a concrete classification boundary and identifies the missing description; it does not select a route, establish a machining rate or claim HM owns or operates either type of machine.
Customer Questions
What mechanism is identified in fictional A?
Electrochemical dissolution.
What mechanism is identified in B?
Electrical-discharge erosion.
Does conductivity classify the route by itself?
The medium and removal description are still needed.
