Review the path above a moving powder bed when asking whether particles leave the vessel; bed fluidization alone does not establish carryover.
Identify the Material Response
The primary West Virginia University study distinguishes particle motion in the bed from elutriation into the outlet stream. Its freeboard discussion compares upward gas motion with the particle settling response. Primary reference: freeboard particle carryover.
Review a Hypothetical Comparison
Imagine a fictional freeboard with upward gas speed 0.20 m/s. Under a deliberately simplified isolated-particle model, one particle class has downward terminal speed 0.05 m/s and another 0.30 m/s. Their relative vertical velocities would be +0.15 and −0.10 m/s. The opposite signs illustrate possible carryover versus return, not a complete entrainment prediction.
Keep the Evidence with the Decision
Identify where gas expands or accelerates above the bed and which particle classes reach that region. Keep the gas-flow area, size/density evidence and outlet geometry in the review. Record collected outlet material separately from observations of bed motion. If a settling model is used, preserve its drag assumptions and the local gas state.
Agglomerates, turbulence and initial ejection can invalidate a simple terminal-speed comparison. A bed may move while most material remains, or only a selected fraction may escape. Request representative outlet and inventory evidence before interpreting a changing composition as a universal powder-flow problem. The hypothetical speeds give no permissible emission level, collector sizing or installed HM capability.
Can a gas velocity mobilize the bed without carrying the relevant particle population away?
This blank worksheet is for your own project. It contains no H M machine trial result.

Customer Questions
Does a moving bed prove every particle escapes?
No. Carryover is a separate outlet question.
What does the positive fictional sign mean?
Upward relative motion in that simplified model.
Are the speeds a collector design specification?
No. Actual geometry and transport evidence are required.
