Exploded views reveal components and their relationships. Their displaced positions explain construction rather than the installed spacing.
Identify the presentation displacement
An exploded view moves components away from their assembled positions to show individual parts and relationships. It can use item callouts to connect the presentation with the parts list. The displacement is part of the illustration. Primary reference: Autodesk: exploded assemblies and repositioned drawing components.
Separate that display position from the actual assembled interface. An empty-looking space between components does not establish the installed gap, extraction distance or available tool access. Those quantities need their own geometric definition.
Compare a fictional seated interface
Imagine two components whose defined assembled faces contact each other at one interface. An exploded presentation moves one component 30 mm away to make both faces visible. The illustrated 30 mm is not an assembled clearance: the stated nominal interface remains face-to-face contact.
The example makes no claim about preload, tolerances, elastic deformation or a real assembly procedure. A motion used for visual separation is also not automatically a feasible removal path through surrounding equipment. The presentation's meaning must remain limited to what it actually describes.
Use the appropriate assembled evidence
For fit or access questions, obtain an assembled view or the relevant model dimensions. Use the exploded view to identify the parts involved and the illustrated relationship. Keep its callout identifiers so the receiver can match the discussion to the correct items.
If maintenance removal is being assessed, request the intended movement envelope and constraints separately. An attractive exploded image may leave surrounding guards or connections out for clarity. The handoff should distinguish the component-identification explanation from the nominal installed geometry and from any independently reviewed service movement.
Customer Questions
Is exploded spacing an installed clearance?
No. It is a presentation displacement.
Does the fictional 30 mm separation alter the contact definition?
No. The assembled interface remains the stated face contact.
Does an exploded path prove service access?
No. The actual movement envelope needs separate evidence.
