A thermocouple junction can be electrically connected to its sheath or isolated from it. Keep that construction choice separate from the thermocouple letter type.
Specify the junction construction
OMEGA distinguishes grounded, ungrounded and exposed junctions. A grounded junction connects to the sheath; an ungrounded junction is electrically isolated from it. Construction can affect response and electrical interaction, so a type designation such as K does not settle the junction choice.
Review an invented two-offer comparison
Suppose two offers use the same thermocouple type and sheath diameter but different junction construction. Put the process contact, sheath connection and input isolation information beside each offer. Ask the instrument supplier to review the complete electrical arrangement.
A response claim should include applicable construction and test conditions. Neither isolation nor a fast response label establishes the whole installation’s suitability. Avoid turning one manufacturer’s particular insulation-resistance value into a universal requirement for every probe.
Request evidence for the actual combination
Record junction construction, sheath material, input design and intended contact conditions together. Have the responsible technical reviewer assess the electrical path and required response evidence. Keep any approved arrangement tied to the quoted part; substituting a visually similar probe can change the junction relationship.

Customer Questions
Does a thermocouple letter type define grounding?
No. Junction construction is a separate property.
Are ungrounded and exposed junctions the same?
No. They describe different constructions.
Can a similar-looking replacement alter the electrical path?
Yes. Verify the specified junction construction.
