An absolute encoder value and the machine's accepted coordinate reference are related but distinct records.
Define the reference the task needs
Dynapar compares incremental and absolute feedback and their position-reference implications. The encoder's representation should be related to the actual machine coordinate system. Primary reference: Dynapar feedback architectures.
Ask where the coordinate origin comes from, how it is established and which conditions preserve its validity. A component reporting an absolute position does not by itself describe every transmission offset or machine-reference relationship. Keep the accepted mapping and startup behavior explicit.
A hypothetical restart requirement
Imagine a fictional drive reports an encoder position immediately after restart, but the relation between that position and an assembled mechanism's reference has changed during service. The immediate numeric value does not automatically establish the old machine coordinate. Record the encoder observation and the machine-reference validity question separately.
Build columns for reference origin, encoder representation, mapping/offset, power-loss behavior and authorized re-establishment method. This example identifies no HM homing sequence, retained offset or permitted restart movement. It does not instruct an operator to move the axis.
Preserve what must survive a change
A replacement encoder, transmission or retained-setting change can affect the coordinate relationship. Retain those changes with the commissioning reference rather than assuming that an unchanged displayed number proves the same physical location.
Ask the responsible supplier how the defined startup and service cases establish a valid reference for the intended task. The guide helps a buyer specify an information and coordinate requirement; it does not prescribe a homing direction, position limit or universal startup procedure and does not claim that absolute feedback removes every need to verify the actual machine's reference mapping.
Customer Questions
Does an absolute encoder define the machine origin by itself?
No. Preserve its mapping to the accepted machine reference.
Can service affect the coordinate relationship?
Yes. Relevant mechanical or retained-setting changes need review.
Does the article prescribe a homing movement?
No. Use the authorized method for the actual equipment.
