Match the IO-Link device description to the proposed device and retain its revision with the interpreted fields.
Keep the description identity
ifm describes the IODD as defining a device’s communication structure, including data layout, parameters and identification information. A description is useful only when it matches the intended device. Primary reference: understanding the IODD.
An imported file is evidence of what was interpreted, not proof that its model, variant and applicability agree with the physical device. Preserve those identities before discussing a correctly scaled value or meaningful diagnostic.
A fictional variant mismatch
Imagine two proposed devices share a family name but have different documented process layouts. The application imports the description for A while the quotation names B. Even if a displayed number looks plausible, the disagreement remains unresolved. Apparent plausibility does not establish a correct byte location, scale or event meaning.
Write physical device identification, offered variant, description filename/revision, applicability reference and interpreted fields in a worksheet. Add a row for the master or tool’s accepted device identity. Keep any substitutions visible instead of editing a label in the report to make two different devices appear to match.
Retain an interpretable revision record
Ask the supplier which description applies and which fields the consumer actually uses. Keep the selected file or documented version with the accepted layout so the project can reproduce the interpretation after maintenance.
This review is separate from choosing cyclic versus acyclic data and from establishing active IO-Link mode. It gives no import or replacement procedure and promises no automatic interchangeability. No particular IODD or digital interface is claimed for HM equipment. The result should identify exactly which device description supports each application field.
Customer Questions
Does the same family name prove the same layout?
Verify the selected variant.
Does a plausible displayed number prove the description match?
Retain device and file identity evidence.
Why preserve the revision?
It identifies the interpretation used for the record.
