Liquid-Filled Gauges: Distinguish Case Fill from Diaphragm-Seal Fill Fluid

The phrase “liquid filled” can describe different parts of pressure instrumentation. Identify whether the liquid surrounds the gauge mechanism or transfers pressure within a seal assembly.

The phrase “liquid filled” can describe different parts of pressure instrumentation. Identify whether the liquid surrounds the gauge mechanism or transfers pressure within a seal assembly.

Locate the fluid in the assembly

WIKA explains that liquid in a gauge case damps and protects the internal movement under relevant conditions. This case liquid is different from the fill fluid in a diaphragm-seal pressure-transmission path. A purchase note should identify which part is filled rather than combining the two functions.

Resolve an invented wording ambiguity

Imagine a quotation says “glycerine filled” while another document lists a remote diaphragm seal. Ask for an assembly drawing and fluid identification at each location. Do not assume the case-fill statement specifies the seal’s transmission fluid or its process suitability.

Separate the review questions: movement behavior for the case, and assembly compatibility and thermal performance for the sealed pressure path. A clearer component register prevents a supplier answer about one fluid from being used as evidence about the other.

Retain specific component descriptions

Record gauge model, case-fill description and any diaphragm-seal assembly with its own fluid and ratings. Ask the supplier to identify the scope of each performance statement. A steadier pointer can improve readability without establishing that transient process peaks are absent or that the whole installed pressure result has a smaller uncertainty.

Customer Questions

Is case fill the same as seal fill?

No.

Does a steadier pointer prove there are no pressure peaks?

No.

Can one fluid description cover the whole assembly?

Only when the actual component scope is clearly documented.
