A particle-size label needs its removal basis and test conditions to become a useful comparison.
Retain size and efficiency together
Parker's filtration reference connects particle-size rating to removal efficiency and distinguishes rating conventions. Keep the supplier's actual definitions. Primary reference: Parker filtration-rating basis.
A nominal or absolute label should retain its stated criterion and method rather than inherit one universal percentage. Also identify the contaminant type and applicable operating conditions. A particle-removal statement does not automatically specify every oil-vapour, water or system-level air-quality result.
An invented matched-count illustration
Assume comparable normalized samples at the same defined particle-size threshold have upstream count 8000 and downstream count 80. Under those simplified assumptions, the removal fraction is 1−80/8000 =0.99, or 99%. Raw counts from unequal sample volumes could not be used this way without an applicable normalization.
These numbers are invented, not a manufacturer test or an HM air sample. Keep size threshold, sampling basis, count definition and omitted conditions with the arithmetic. It teaches a ratio and does not reproduce a filter test procedure or certify the real element.
Compare applicable filter evidence
Ask for the selected element's removal statement and the conditions behind it. Compare equivalent quantities before choosing between smaller printed micron labels. Pressure drop and capacity can require their own review alongside the removal question.
Preserve the exact grade and reference revision with the quotation. If the element changes, update the applicability assessment instead of keeping an earlier cleanliness assumption. The useful result is a complete removal claim with its limits, not a ranking built from particle size alone or an unsupported guarantee of the whole downstream air system.
Customer Questions
Does the micron number alone establish removal efficiency?
No. Retain the associated criterion.
Can unequal raw sample volumes be ignored in the illustration?
No. A comparable sampling basis is required.
Does particle removal specify every oil-vapour result?
No. Keep contaminant-specific claims separate.
