The displayed pressure is the output of a measurement chain. Its sampling, response and damping can limit what transient behavior is visible.
Separate displayed behavior from physical loading
WIKA’s overload guidance identifies short pressure spikes as a potential source of sensor damage. A displayed normal operating value does not, on its own, establish the highest pressure applied. Review the physical pressure envelope separately from how the instrument presents it.
Compare an invented trend export
Suppose a screen stores one pressure value each second and applies filtering. The record is useful for its documented observation method, but it cannot automatically exclude a shorter event that the chain did not resolve or retain. Identify the sensor response, processing and stored-value definition before making a no-peak claim.
Do not derive a peak value from this example. Ask the responsible engineer what applicable measurement evidence or process analysis supports the relevant transient envelope. A setting change needs an approved instrument and process review, not a trial-and-error reduction of damping.
Request two separate evidence statements
Keep the normal pressure trend and the transient-loading assessment as distinct records. Compare the latter with the exact instrument’s applicable limits. Record the installed measurement chain so later reviewers know whether a value was instantaneous, filtered or otherwise aggregated. This guide is about evidence scope, not a live diagnostic procedure.

Customer Questions
Does a smooth trend prove an absence of spikes?
No.
Can a one-second export resolve every shorter event?
No. Its measurement chain and storage method matter.
Does this guide authorize changing damping?
No. Obtain the applicable approved review.
