Pressure datasheets can state several limits that answer different questions. Keep normal measurement performance separate from overload and structural-limit statements.
Identify the rating definitions
WIKA’s range guidance distinguishes rated pressure range, overpressure statements and burst pressure. Their precise application depends on the manufacturer and model. A pressure outside the measurement range may have different performance or durability implications even when another limit has not been exceeded.
Review an invented selection note
Imagine a quotation note says “suitable because burst is above the process pressure”. Ask for the normal operating range, relevant transient conditions, cycle/duration assumptions and exact overload definition. The burst statement does not replace those evidence questions.
Place each requirement and applicable rating on a separate row. Do not infer permitted repeated overloads, a universal safety multiplier or post-overload accuracy from a bare pressure number. A statement for one configuration must remain tied to that configuration.
Obtain an application-level response
Provide the supplier with the actual pressure envelope, medium, temperature and duty information needed for selection. Request written applicability of measurement and overload performance. Retain the response with the model revision. This guide does not choose a rating or justify testing an instrument at any structural limit.

Customer Questions
Does burst pressure define normal measuring performance?
No.
Is an overload multiplier universal?
No. Use the actual manufacturer’s statement.
Does this guide instruct burst testing?
