Use residual unbalance and angular speed to interpret an illustrative rotating force.
Identify the rotating quantity
A mass rotating at radius r requires radial force mrω². For a specified residual unbalance U = mr, the corresponding force magnitude is Uω². Primary reference: circular-motion force.
U is a mass-distance quantity, not the total assembly mass. Preserve its units and the stated plane. This ideal forcing calculation does not predict bearing vibration directly because the support and structural response still matter.
A fictional speed change
Assume a hypothetical residual unbalance of 0.0002 kg·m. At 100 rad/s, force magnitude is 2 N. At 200 rad/s, it is 8 N: twice the angular speed gives four times the force under the same U. A residual expressed in g·mm must first be converted consistently.
A second row may use a smaller U at the higher speed, but that is a different comparison. Do not quietly change the residual and then attribute the result entirely to speed. The invented numbers do not establish a rotor balance grade, correction mass or acceptable operating speed.
Separate force from diagnosis
Create a worksheet containing rotor identity, residual basis, plane, speed convention and the modeled force. Ask whether the reported quantity is an actual measured residual or a proposed calculation input. Retain the actual balancing report and its applicable conditions where available.
An amplitude observed on the machine requires a separate response assessment. Misalignment, geometric errors and other excitations cannot be excluded from one speed-related observation. This guide provides no balancing operation, correction placement or instruction to change a running machine.
Customer Questions
Can total rotor mass replace U?
Residual unbalance needs an identified mass-distance basis.
What does doubling speed do with fixed U?
The modeled force becomes four times larger.
Does calculated force equal measured vibration?
Structural and support response must be considered separately.
