A tap advances by its thread pitch per revolution; feed and rotation describe a coupled motion.
State the synchronization basis
Haas relates tapping feed to spindle RPM and thread pitch, distinguishing feed per minute from feed per revolution interpretation. Primary reference: Haas tapping reference.
Trace a fictional reversal
Assign an invented single-start pitch of 1.25 mm. A forward movement of two revolutions requires 2.50 mm axial advance under the ideal coupled-path model. Reversing one revolution then returns the expected position to 1.25 mm relative to the starting point.
Imagine the recorded axial positions are instead 0, 2.50 and 2.75 mm at those three rotation states. The forward point matches, but the final position differs by 1.50 mm. A correct forward average did not establish synchronized reversal. These invented traces are not actual machine measurements, selected speeds or permission to run a tap.
Review target and measured coupling
Put thread pitch, spindle motion, axial motion and active feed mode in separate fields. Keep controller-specific interpretation with the actual program rather than assuming the same numeric field has the same meaning everywhere.
Compare measured coupled motion and tooling capability under the relevant operation. This worksheet detects a dimensional mismatch and identifies the missing reversal evidence. It neither supplies executable tapping code nor proves thread acceptance from a matched average ratio; tool geometry, prepared hole and actual thread evidence remain separate requirements for the machining review.
Customer Questions
What is the fictional expected final axial position?
1.25 millimeters from the start.
What error remains in the recorded final point?
1.50 millimeters.
Does a forward match prove synchronized reversal?
The reversing path needs its own evidence.
