Describe the External Cleaning Requirement Precisely
Start with the task the buyer intends to perform on the outside of the equipment. Identify the areas affected and the planned cleaning materials and method through the site references. Do not reduce the requirement to an informal statement that the machine should be washable.
Separate this enquiry from product-contact cleaning, a washer process circuit or a clean-in-place function. Those tasks have different boundaries and supporting documents. This article organizes a purchase-scope question; it supplies no cleaning sequence or permission to apply liquid to electrical or moving equipment.
List Enclosures, Controls and Interfaces in the Affected Area
Use the quoted arrangement to identify panels, displays, motors, sensors, connectors, cable entries and any supplied external auxiliaries relevant to the proposed task. Ask the supplier which drawings and component references apply. Keep field-installed site interfaces visible rather than reviewing only the machine cabinet.
A description of stainless construction does not supply the complete external-cleaning method. Ask about the assembled configuration and the affected interfaces. Do not assume a component protection description covers every joint, accessory or later addition to the delivered equipment.
Request the Applicable Protection and Cleaning Documents
Ask for the written scope governing external cleaning on the selected machine. Retain any applicable protection designation, component reference, installation restriction and supplier cleaning instruction with its revision. If the supplier has not confirmed a requested method, keep it as an unresolved purchase question.
Do not turn an isolated rating into an operating procedure. The responsible supplier and site team should review the actual method, materials, machine state and affected assembly. No universal washdown capability is implied by this worksheet, and no cleaning result or compatibility is asserted.
Assign Machine and Site Responsibilities Separately
Record which interfaces are supplied with the machine and which will be installed by the site or another contractor. Ask how that boundary will be documented at handover. Include any buyer provision required before the intended external task can be reviewed.
If an enclosure, sensor, cable connection or cleaning material changes later, preserve the change and request review against the applicable documentation. Keep the approved method with the delivered configuration. Physical access, isolation and cleaning work must follow the applicable procedures; this guide does not instruct anyone to remove protection or clean energized equipment.
Use an External-Cleaning Scope Request Record
Complete a separate copy for each affected assembly or interface. Attach the intended task and ask for a response that identifies the relevant document rather than a general assurance. Blank project entries below represent questions awaiting confirmation.
This blank worksheet records the proposed review. Complete it using identified project documents; the empty cells contain no observed result or approval.

Buyer Questions
Does stainless construction establish washdown permission?
No. Request the external-cleaning scope for the assembled machine, including controls, connections and supplied interfaces.
Is product-contact cleaning the same purchase question?
Keep the external task and the wetted process cleaning requirements separate, with their applicable documentation.
May an unconfirmed method be treated as an included feature?
Keep it open until the supplier and responsible site team confirm the actual method and configuration in writing.
