Readable note size is a documentation choice. It should not be interpreted as a scaled dimension of the represented component.
Identify the annotation's quantity
Drawing text settings define the font and height used for notes, dimensions and other annotations. Those text-height values describe documentation appearance. The component's geometry has a separate nominal definition and view-scale relationship. Primary reference: Autodesk: document annotation fonts and text-height settings.
Keep an annotation's intended sheet size separate from the feature value it labels. Enlarging a model view and enlarging the lettering are different presentation decisions. The displayed word or number need not be a physical object sized in the model.
Compare an invented pair of drawings
Suppose a fictional 100 mm component is shown at 1:2 in one drawing and 1:4 in another. Its ideal page spans are 50 and 25 mm respectively. Both drawings independently specify an annotation height of 3 mm on the sheet. The notes can retain that same height while the part picture changes size.
The illustration deliberately states both presentation settings; it does not claim every CAD or export route preserves them automatically. Later page reproduction can change the whole sheet again. No font-readability threshold or required drafting height is specified by these invented numbers.
Check the released sheet at its intended use
Identify the view scale and annotation settings separately when assessing whether a drawing communicates an interface clearly. Inspect the actual released output so text is not clipped or confused with nearby features. Retain the nominal dimension values independently of the page appearance.
Where a receiver requests larger text, clarify whether the revision changes annotation presentation or the represented geometry. A readable drawing should keep labels attached to their intended references without implying that font size defines component size. Review the final copy through the actual viewing or reproduction route rather than assuming the application's settings alone guarantee its presentation.
Customer Questions
Is text height the component's view scale?
No. They describe different presentation quantities.
What are the fictional 100 mm part's two page spans?
50 and 25 mm under the stated 1:2 and 1:4 scales.
Are the invented 3 mm letters a universal readability limit?
No. Actual communication requirements need their own review.
