Define the Interface or Transport Basis

KRÜSS defines interfacial tension as work per newly created interfacial area. For a deliberately simplified constant-tension comparison, the ideal interfacial contribution is gamma multiplied by the added area. Mechanical input also has other destinations, so this contribution is not a motor sizing rule.

Review a Hypothetical Comparison

Assume, purely for illustration, that an independently estimated interface inventory increases by 15 m² and tension remains 0.024 J/m². The associated interfacial-energy change is 0.36 J. Suppose the measured net mechanical work over the same fictional interval is 90 J: the ideal area contribution is 0.4% of that work. That fraction describes this assumed balance; it does not mean the mixer achieves a universal efficiency of 0.4%.

Keep the Evidence with the Decision

Put the area inventory, tension basis and integration interval beside the work input. Decide whether tension actually stays fixed while area grows. Track the route used to estimate mechanical work and whether heating, viscous dissipation or other changes lie inside the boundary. Use the calculation to identify missing energy terms rather than to prescribe a speed or processing time.

This guide starts from an assigned area change. It does not repeat the task of deriving area from a droplet-size distribution. Real dispersed structures and variable tension require a model beyond the simple product used here.

Customer Questions

Can gamma times area size the drive?

No. It represents a defined interfacial contribution, not total mechanical demand.

Does a small fraction imply poor product quality?

No. The fraction alone does not describe dispersion performance.

What if tension changes during breakup?

The constant-tension product needs replacement by an appropriate area-dependent energy assessment.
