Compare a requested endpoint with equilibrium moisture at the actual gas condition before extending the drying time.
Define the Material or Thermodynamic Model
The NPTEL drying definitions define free moisture as moisture above the equilibrium value under the stated gas condition. A drying endpoint below that equilibrium value needs a changed condition or a revised model; additional time alone does not establish it.
Review a Hypothetical Comparison
For an assigned isothermal equilibrium condition, take initial X = 0.080 and equilibrium Xeq = 0.030 kg/kg dry solid. The removable excess is 0.050 kg/kg on that model. A proposed target of 0.020 lies below Xeq. Label that target incompatible with the stated equilibrium condition instead of extrapolating the existing drying-time curve indefinitely.
Keep the Evidence with the Decision
Retain the temperature, gas water-vapour condition and material state beside Xeq. Reassess the endpoint when the incoming gas or material changes. Separate evidence for the equilibrium boundary from evidence for how quickly the boundary is approached.
This arithmetic assumes the assigned Xeq is applicable and stable. It supplies neither an isotherm nor a time prediction. Actual nonequilibrium measurements can differ transiently from the equilibrium model and require interpretation.
