Keep liquid-pressure power and atomizing-gas input separate when comparing hydraulic and two-fluid spray routes.

Define the Material or Thermodynamic Model

Spraying Systems’ technical reference distinguishes hydraulic atomization without compressed air from air atomization using gas to break up liquid. Actuation air and atomizing air are also different functions; a pneumatically opened valve need not use air for droplet formation.

Review a Hypothetical Comparison

Imagine hydraulic liquid flow of 1 L/min through a 2 bar pressure drop. The ideal liquid-pressure power is ΔpQ = 3.33 W. A two-fluid comparison also has an atomizing-gas stream. That stream cannot be declared energetically free, nor can its compression work be calculated from this liquid ΔpQ alone. Keep the gas supply and compression basis in another row.

Keep the Evidence with the Decision

Trace which input operates a valve and which input reaches the breakup region. Use a consistent system boundary when comparing pump and compressor utility energy.

The 3.33 W is an assigned ideal hydraulic term, not electrical input or a droplet-size prediction. Pump losses, gas thermodynamic conditions and nozzle response need separate evidence; no supplier operating table is used.

Customer Questions

What hydraulic power is calculated?

3.33 W.

Does it include compressor work?

No gas-work account is supplied.

Does pneumatic actuation prove air atomization?

No; valve motion and liquid breakup have separate roles.
