An efficiency value becomes useful when its operating condition is visible.
Keep the load point with the figure
The US Department of Energy's motor-load guidance discusses efficiency in relation to loading. One reported point does not describe every operating condition automatically. Primary reference: DOE motor load and efficiency.
Identify which motor and operating point the evidence describes. A nominal motor rating, an actual shaft-load estimate and an electrical input observation are different entries. Preserve their definitions rather than inferring the complete efficiency curve from a single nameplate or catalog value.
A hypothetical energy estimate
Assume a fictional mode supplies 2 kW of shaft output at a modeled efficiency of 0.8. The corresponding input estimate is 2/0.8 =2.5 kW. If a different invented mode supplies 1 kW at 0.7, the model gives about 1.43 kW input. Applying 0.8 to that second mode would instead give 1.25 kW and change the estimate.
Record each mode's output basis, efficiency source, duration and input estimate. The assumed efficiencies are not vendor data or HM measurements. The calculation does not establish actual motor losses, machine consumption or an energy-saving result.
Compare offers over the intended duty
Ask whether the available evidence represents the loading and control modes relevant to the application. A convenient full-load figure can be informative without answering a partly loaded operating schedule.
Keep the assumptions with any cost or energy calculation so later reviewers can change them when real duty information becomes available. This guide explains the importance of an operating-point efficiency basis; it does not prescribe a motor loading percentage, claim a verified saving or replace the complete system's measured consumption with a nominal motor-efficiency label.
Customer Questions
Does one efficiency point define every load mode?
No. Retain the stated operating condition.
Are the 0.8 and 0.7 values manufacturer results?
No. They are invented teaching assumptions.
Can this calculation report verified machine energy use?
No. Actual system consumption needs its appropriate evidence.
