A current figure needs the operating event it describes.
Name the current condition
Schneider's transformer-for-motor guidance distinguishes starting demand from full-load running current. Keep those operating conditions separate in a supply review. Primary reference: Schneider motor starting-demand context.
A stated running current does not automatically describe a startup transient. Ask which event the capacity or protection question concerns, and retain its duration and actual system configuration. Different starting architectures should not be assumed to have identical current behavior from the motor name alone.
A hypothetical demand schedule
Imagine a fictional load schedule listing 8 A in steady operation and a separately documented startup event of 40 A for an identified period. Enter the two records in distinct rows. Adding 40 A to every steady running interval would misdescribe the schedule, while deleting it because the steady value is 8 A would omit the event.
The numbers are invented, not an HM current reading or a starting multiplier. Keep starting method, voltage conditions, observed or calculated source and time basis in the worksheet. No cable, protective-device rating or permitted starting duration is selected here.
Give the designer a complete event record
Ask the responsible electrical designer which combinations of loads and operating events the actual supply and protection review must cover. Keep any simultaneous-start assumptions visible rather than hiding them in an annual average.
When a motor, drive or startup sequence changes, preserve the changed event information with the equipment record. This guide supports an interpretable current schedule; it does not prescribe protection settings, provide a universal inrush factor or treat one running-current label as a complete description of every electrical demand made by the selected machinery.
Customer Questions
Does running current define the startup event?
No. Retain the actual starting method and current/time evidence.
Is 40 A a universal starting value here?
No. It is an invented schedule entry.
What should a load schedule preserve?
Distinct operating events, their conditions and relevant durations.
