Powder Addition Rate: Separate Local Wetting Demand from Vessel Average Concentration

Total addition time can hide a short interval in which powder arrives faster than the local wetting process can incorporate it.

Library dates organize the collection. Actual publication and revision dates are shown separately.

Total addition time can hide a short interval in which powder arrives faster than the local wetting process can incorporate it.

Define the Process Model

Silverson’s gum-hydration explanation describes agglomerates with partly hydrated exteriors and dry cores. The practical review should retain how powder reaches liquid and what happens at that location. An average batch addition rate is not automatically the local rate during a dump or a feed interruption.

Compare a Hypothetical Case

Suppose an invented addition contains 10 kg over 20 minutes, averaging 0.5 kg/min. If 2 kg is released during one 10-second interval, that interval’s rate is 12 kg/min. The average has hidden a twenty-fourfold local delivery-rate increase. No claim is made that either rate is acceptable for the selected ingredient or mixer.

Complete the Engineering Review

Record addition mass against time, the entry location and the observed incorporation response. Identify interruptions, accumulated material and whether the carrier condition changes during the feed. Compare dry-core or agglomerate observations under a defined assessment. Do not infer a universal feed setting from the arithmetic or transfer another manufacturer’s sequence recommendation without product-specific evidence.

For an ointment-manufacturing enquiry, provide the real ingredient and addition history. The guide does not specify an HM powder-feed device or hydration recipe. It exposes a time-resolution question that can be missed when a trial record contains only start, finish and total mass.

Customer Questions

Does average kg/min reveal a short powder dump?

Keep the shorter delivery intervals visible.

Is 0.5 kg/min an approved setting?

It is only an illustrative average.

Does contact angle determine the feed setting alone?

The actual incorporation process needs additional evidence.
