Keep ramp direction, duration and the plotted quantity with a hysteresis-area comparison instead of treating a loop as a timeless material constant.
Identify the Deformation and Model
TA Instruments notes that a non-equilibrium up/down rheology ramp depends on its duration and that a loop test does not itself provide structure-recovery information. Protocol belongs to the result. Primary reference: ramp loop and time dependence.
Review a Hypothetical Comparison
Consider two fictional rate ramps with identical endpoints but total durations 60 s and 120 s. Different resulting loop areas cannot be attributed solely to a formulation difference when their time histories differ. For a stress-versus-rate loop, integrating stress over rate gives units Pa per second, not the energy-density units of a stress-versus-strain loop.
Keep the Evidence with the Decision
Retain axis definitions, ramp shape, direction, elapsed time and any area normalization. Mark whether repeat loops began from comparable prepared states. Use a separate recovery observation if the actual enquiry concerns rebuilding after shear. Ask which parts of a changed area could result from the schedule rather than the material inventory or recipe.
A zero or small loop does not by itself certify absence of every time-dependent response under every history. The invented durations prescribe no laboratory protocol or acceptance band. No paint dataset, HM formulation performance or recovery time is inferred. The practical output is a protocol-compatible comparison sheet that distinguishes a loop summary from the response question it can support.
Does a loop-area comparison use the same loading protocol and time scale?
This blank worksheet is for your own project. It contains no H M machine trial result.

Customer Questions
Can different durations be ignored when comparing loops?
No. Time history can affect the response.
Is stress integrated over rate an energy density?
No. Its dimensions are Pa per second.
Does the loop alone show structure recovery time?
No. Recovery needs its own observation.
