Convert droplet solids inventory into particle geometry only after stating what structure the particle retains.

Define the Material or Thermodynamic Model

A primary slurry-droplet model shows that drying can form a porous crust and a hollow particle. Liquid droplet diameter therefore cannot universally be identified with a solid-equivalent dry diameter; solids inventory and final structure both matter.

Review a Hypothetical Comparison

Assume a fictional spherical 80 μm droplet contains a solid volume fraction of 0.125. If all solid is retained, its density is unchanged and the final sphere is compact and void-free, its dry diameter is 80 × 0.125^(1/3) = 40 μm. A hollow shell can enclose that same solid volume with a larger outside diameter, so the compact calculation does not predict its external size.

Keep the Evidence with the Decision

Separate solid-equivalent diameter from measured outside diameter and record whether mass, volume or number weighting is being compared. Identify the structural assumption behind any droplet-to-particle mapping.

No material packing limit or paper dataset is used. Agglomeration, loss of solids, residual solvent, density changes and nonspherical shapes break the simple mapping and require a different account.

Customer Questions

What compact dry diameter follows?

40 μm.

Does it predict a hollow shell’s outer size?

No; void geometry is missing.

Is the assigned fraction a measured formulation?

No; it is chosen for the hypothetical calculation.
