Passing one nominal batch volume through a recirculation loop does not mean every material element has passed through it once.
Define the Process Model
Silverson’s in-line mixer documentation describes material processing through a local workhead and continuous circulation options. Separate that local passage from coverage of the returning batch. A simple coverage model assumes a perfectly mixed vessel, constant volume and flow, and complete marking of previously unprocessed material on each pass.
Compare a Hypothetical Case
Under those hypothetical assumptions, the unprocessed fraction f follows df/dt = −(Q/V)f, giving f = e⁻Qt/V. After one nominal turnover, Qt/V = 1, about 36.8% remains unmarked; after three, about 5.0% remains. This is a mathematical pass-coverage example, not a measured percentage of unmixed or unacceptable product.
Complete the Engineering Review
Record batch volume, measured loop flow and return arrangement. State what one passage actually does to material and whether the vessel behaves like the assumed perfect mix. Keep the actual required process endpoint separate from the count of nominal turnovers. A strong local treatment need not establish identical histories across all elements of a recirculated batch.
For an ointment-manufacturing discussion, obtain the offered circuit and endpoint evidence. This guide does not assert that HM includes a Silverson workhead or behaves as the ideal model. It explains why a loop throughput figure should not automatically become a one-pass-per-particle claim.

Customer Questions
Does one turnover guarantee every element passed?
Not in the stated perfectly mixed returning-loop model.
Is 36.8% a failed-product fraction?
It is only an ideal unmarked-material model fraction.
Can real bypass change coverage?
The actual circuit needs its own evidence.
